The Bachelor of Laws Honours program requires students to complete a total of 80 credit points, comprising core, research, and specialist elective units. It emphasizes independent research, critical analysis, and scholarly writing, preparing graduates for further academic study or professional advancement.The program begins with two core units, LWZ401 Legal Research Methodologies and LWZ402 Legal Research Development, which together account for 20 credit points. These foundational units provide essential knowledge in legal research design, methodology, and development, equipping students with the skills needed to plan and execute a major research project.The main component of the course is the research thesis, which totals 40 credit points. Full-time students enroll in LWZ711 Law Honours Research Thesis A (40cp), while part-time students complete the thesis across two semesters by enrolling in LWZ712 Law Honours Research Thesis B (20cp) and LWZ713 Law Honours Research Thesis C (20cp).The thesis allows students to undertake original research on a chosen legal topic, applying rigorous research methods and critical reasoning to produce a substantial academic work that demonstrates mastery of the subject matter.In addition, students must complete 20 credit points of specialist electives. These electives must be approved by the Course Coordinator and Supervisor and can be selected from a range of advanced law units or related disciplines that complement the student’s research topic. Options include subjects such as Indigenous Peoples and the Law,Transnational Law, International Criminal Law, and Public International Law, as well as interdisciplinary courses in research design, policy development, and ethics.The course follows the Higher Education Course Rules outlined in the university’s policy, ensuring academic integrity and consistency. Transitional arrangements are provided for discontinued or replaced units, maintaining flexibility for continuing students.
