Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Laws is structured to provide students with both essential legal knowledge and the opportunity to explore diverse areas of law through specialist electives. The course is divided into two main components: core units and specialist electives. The core units, with the exception of Legal Process, are prescribed by the legal profession as mandatory for meeting the academic requirements for admission to legal practice in Australia. These units build a strong foundation in areas such as criminal law, contracts, constitutional law, property law, evidence, and professional responsibility. In contrast, the specialist electives allow students to deepen their understanding of specific fields such as family law, environmental law, human rights, intellectual property, and public international law. This combination of compulsory and elective units enables students to develop both broad and specialised legal expertise.The program requires students to complete a total of 240 credit points, comprising 13 core units and 11 specialist electives, each valued at 10 credit points. A maximum of 100 credit points may be taken from 100-level units, and at least 60 credit points must be earned from 300-level or higher units, ensuring both foundational and advanced learning. Students also have the flexibility to study online, with access to recorded lectures, interactive tutorials, and comprehensive digital resources, allowing them to complete the course from anywhere in the world.Graduates of this program will have the academic qualifications necessary to apply for admission to legal practice in Australia. Those wishing to pursue further academic distinction may apply for the one-year Bachelor of Laws Honours program upon completion of the degree. The course is continually updated through transitional arrangements to reflect changes in legal education standards and evolving areas of legal study, ensuring students receive a current and professionally relevant legal education.
