The Bachelor of Health Science is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to work effectively in a diverse range of health settings across urban, rural, and remote communities. The course emphasises understanding the challenges of delivering healthcare in these varied contexts while promoting innovation and sustainability in health practice. Students have the opportunity to access scholarships, participate in study-abroad programs, and engage in international study tours or student exchange programs that enhance their global health perspective. Studying alongside students from social work and other allied health fields encourages a multidisciplinary understanding of healthcare delivery, preparing graduates for collaboration within the broader health industry. The curriculum goes beyond illness and disease prevention to include topics such as mental health, epidemiology, cultural safety, global and environmental health, and health informatics. Flexible study options are available, allowing students to study on campus, online, or through a blended format—making it ideal for those balancing work, family, and study commitments. The course structure requires completion of 240 credit points, including 14 core units, three specialist elective units, and five general elective units. Core units cover essential areas such as anatomy and physiology, ethics in healthcare, health promotion, epidemiology, research, and rural and remote health.Students also complete a community health project in their final year through the Health Science Community Practicum units, where they work directly with health agencies under the guidance of CDU academics. This practical experience helps develop professional skills and prepares students for real-world challenges in public health, health administration, and policy development. The Bachelor of Health Science provides a strong foundation for graduates seeking careers across the healthcare spectrum or further postgraduate studies in areas such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, public health, or research.
