Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science requires students to complete a total of 240 credit points, consisting entirely of core units designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in exercise, health, and human performance. Each unit is valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise stated. The program integrates foundational science subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, Introductory Chemistry, and Medical Biochemistry to build a strong understanding of the human body and its functions. Students also study psychology, nutrition, and epidemiology to gain insight into the social, behavioral, and statistical aspects of health and exercise.Specialized units in exercise science, including Exercise Prescription and Delivery, Physiology of Exercise, Functional Anatomy, Biomechanics, and Motor Control and Learning, develop the skills required to design and implement effective exercise programs for diverse populations. Several of these subjects include a compulsory five-day intensive at the Casuarina campus to meet accreditation standards set by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Additionally, professional practice units such as Exercise Science Practicum and Clinical Practice as an Exercise Scientist include 80 hours of supervised placement each, ensuring students gain valuable hands-on industry experience.Advanced study areas in the final year, such as Research in Exercise Science and Physical Activity in Specific Populations, encourage critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and the application of scientific research to real-world scenarios. To maintain academic balance, students can take a maximum of 100 credit points from 100-level units and must complete at least 60 credit points from 300-level units or higher. Overall, the course equips graduates with the professional and technical expertise required to work as exercise scientists or pursue further studies and research in health and sports science disciplines.
