The Bachelor of Environmental Science at Charles Darwin University is a comprehensive and flexible degree that combines foundational science, practical fieldwork, and advanced study options to prepare students for meaningful careers in environmental management, conservation, and sustainability. Students can tailor their learning by selecting one or two majors from Biodiversity and Conservation, Spatial and Quantitative Ecology, Water and Landscapes, or Eco-Cultural Resource Management. Each major develops specific expertise and provides opportunities for field-based, hands-on learning within the unique environments of Northern and Central Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. The program can be completed on campus, fully online, or through mixed enrolment, either full-time or part-time, offering students the flexibility to learn in ways that suit their lifestyle and goals. The course requires the completion of 240 credit points, including 90 credit points of core units that cover essential areas such as earth systems, biodiversity, ecology, environmental issues, Indigenous land management, and spatial thinking. Specialist electives make up 120 credit points, allowing students to deepen their expertise through their chosen major or explore multiple disciplines. For those seeking broader learning, up to 30 credit points may be completed as general electives from other undergraduate courses. Students may also engage in professional practice units, field intensives, and research projects that enhance their technical and analytical capabilities.Graduates of this program are well-equipped to tackle environmental challenges through critical and systems thinking, data analysis, and cross-cultural understanding. They gain practical experience in environmental monitoring, conservation planning, hydrology, and Indigenous resource management. Upon completion, graduates are prepared for diverse roles in environmental consultancy, conservation agencies, natural resource management, government, research, and policy development, contributing to sustainable solutions for global environmental challenges.
