The Bachelor of Education Secondary is a 320-credit-point, four-year degree preparing graduates to teach Years 7–12 across Australia. It comprises 16 core units (150 cp, including the non-credit LAN020 LANTITE, which students must pass and self-fund via ACER), and specialist electives totaling 170 cp: one major teaching area (12–17 units) and one minor (typically 60 cp, except History/TESOL). All units are 10 cp unless specified. An 80-day professional experience sequence—EPR321, EPR322, EPR401—must be completed in order.Core units provide foundational pedagogy: ETL102 Introduction to Teaching and Learning, IAS101 Indigenous Australia, LAL100 Language, Literacy Sustainability, ELA213 English as an Additional Language for Secondary Teachers, EST200 Child and Adolescent Development, EST203 First Nations Contexts in Learning and Teaching Practice, EST204 Classroom Digital Literacies, EST245 Classroom Management and Student Wellbeing, EST300 Assessment, Moderation and Reporting, EST303 Diverse Needs in the Classroom, EST305 Socially Inclusive Pedagogy, EST351 Developing New Teacher Content, and EPR401 Professional Experience: Assessment for Graduate Teachers.Students select a major from Science (Biology/Chemistry/Environmental Science/Physics), Languages (Chinese/Greek/Indonesian/Yolngu), English, Health and Physical Education, Humanities, Digital Technology, Mathematics, Music, or Visual Arts. Minors include History, TESOL, or subject-specific streams. For example, the Health and Physical Education major (110 cp) includes anatomy, exercise science, nutrition, and ECM311/ECM312 pedagogy, paired with a Mathematics, Science (Biology), or Health minor. The Mathematics major (110 cp) integrates engineering and data analytics with ECM361/ECM362, paired with a Science minor. Language majors (110 cp) combine progressive language study, linguistics, and ECM351/ECM352, paired with EAL/D minor (TES units).Course rules limit 100-level units to 120 cp and require 80 cp at 300/400-level. ECM pedagogy units should follow content units. Graduates meet AITSL standards, are eligible for registration, and are equipped to deliver the Australian Curriculum effectively in diverse secondary contexts.
