The Bachelor of Education Early Childhood and Primary is a 320-credit-point, four-year initial teacher education degree that qualifies graduates to teach children from birth to age 12 in early childhood settings and primary schools. All 33 compulsory core units are valued at 10 credit points, with the exception of the non-credit-bearing LAN020 Literacy and Numeracy (LANTITE), which is a mandatory requirement for teacher registration. The program requires 100 days of sequenced professional experience through EPE230 Preschool and Foundation Professional Experience, EPE240 Early Childhood Professional Experience: Planning for Learning, EPE350 Professional Experience Primary: Assessment and Reporting, and EPR401 Professional Experience: Assessment for Graduate Teachers.Foundational units include ECE101 Human Development and Play Pedagogies, ECL123 Mathematics in Early Years, ECL155 Preparation for Teaching in Early Childhood Education, ELA100 English Language for Literacy, EMA141 Numeracy Education, ESC105 Science and Humanities in Early Childhood, and LAL100 Language, Literacy and Sustainability. Second-year studies advance literacy and creative pedagogies via ECL200 Early Years Language and Literacy, ECL246 Arts, Music and Movement in Early Childhood, ECU205 Digital Technology for Education, ECU206 Design and Technologies, ECU250 Performing Arts in Primary School, ELA210 Reading Literacy and Literature F-2, ELA211 Writing Literacy and Literature F-2, and EMA241 Primary Mathematics Education 1. Supporting units such as EST220 Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Advocacy, EST221 Health, Environment and Wellbeing in Early Childhood Education, and EST245 Classroom Management and Student Wellbeing ensure inclusive, safe learning environments.Third- and fourth-year units deepen subject-specific and leadership skills through ECE302 Leadership and Advocacy in Early Childhood, ECE303 Curriculum and Programming in Early Childhood, ECE304 Critical Reflection on Early Childhood Theory and Practice, ECU301 Humanities and Social Science Pedagogy, ECU342 Health and Physical Education in Primary School, ECU350 Visual Arts in Primary School, ELA305 English Literacy and Literature 3-6, EMA342 Primary Mathematics Education 2, and EST303 Diverse Needs in the Classroom. Course rules limit 100-level units to 120 credit points and require at least 80 credit points at 300-level or above. Graduates meet Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (Graduate level) and are eligible for registration in the Northern Territory and interstate.
