The Bachelor of Computer Science requires the successful completion of 240 credit points (cp), with each unit valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated. The course structure is divided into three main components: Common Units, Core Units, and Electives.Students must complete 20 credit points of Common Units, which include IAS201 Cultural Capabilities (replacing CUC107 from 2024) as a compulsory unit, along with either CUC106 Design and Innovation: Communicating Technology or LAL100 Language, Literacy and Sustainability (replacing CUC100 from 2024). These foundational units develop cultural awareness and communication skills essential for professional and technical contexts. The majority of the degree, totalling 200 credit points, consists of Core Units that provide a comprehensive understanding of computer science principles and applications. These units cover key areas such as programming, data science, mathematics, computer architecture, networking, cybersecurity, software development, and project management. Notable core subjects include HIT137 Software Now, HIT164 Computing Fundamentals, SMA101 Mathematics 1A, HIT234 Database Concepts, HIT333 Cyber Security, and HIT401 Capstone Project, which integrates learning through a major applied project. Students also engage in advanced topics such as algorithms, mobile web structures, distributed development, and human-computer interaction design. In addition, students must complete 20 credit points of Electives, which can be chosen from any undergraduate units offered by the University. This provides flexibility to tailor studies towards specific interests or emerging areas within computer science.Course progression rules specify that a maximum of 100 credit points may be taken from 100-level units, and a minimum of 60 credit points must be taken from 300-level units or above.Transitional arrangements ensure smooth progression for students affected by course updates, including replacements of certain units such as ENG229 for HIT235, ENG320 for HIT332, and HIT401 for ENG303.Overall, this degree equips students with both theoretical and practical expertise, preparing them for diverse roles in software development, cybersecurity, systems analysis, and emerging computing technologies.
