Course Curriculum

The research-based program requires students to complete a total of 80 credit points, comprising both core and specialist elective units. Each unit is generally valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise stated. The program structure includes three compulsory core units totaling 60 credit points: IAS421 Research Proposal, Design and Ethics, IAS720 Thesis A, and IAS721 Thesis B, each carrying 20 credit points. These core components are designed to equip students with essential research planning, design, and ethical practice skills while developing and executing an independent research project. The Thesis A and Thesis B units enable students to undertake significant original research within their chosen discipline, contributing to their professional and academic development. In addition to the core requirements, students must complete 20 credit points from specialist elective units selected from an approved list. These electives allow students to tailor their studies to their research interests and methodological preferences. Options include IAS422 Quantitative Research Methods and Application, IAS423 Qualitative Research Methods and Application, IAS424 Research Methods for the Arts, IAS425 Industry Project, and TES501 Research Methods in Applied Linguistics. These units offer flexibility and specialization, ensuring students gain practical and theoretical expertise in various research approaches. Overall, the 80-credit point structure is designed to strengthen students’ analytical, methodological, and critical thinking capabilities, preparing them for advanced research, academic pathways, or industry-based careers where research and evidence-based decision-making are essential.
