The Bachelor of Arts at Charles Darwin University is a flexible degree designed to provide students with both breadth and depth of knowledge across multiple disciplines. The course requires the successful completion of 240 credit points, which include core units, specialist electives from one or two majors, optional capstone units, and general electives. Students may choose to focus on one major, worth 80 credit points, or complete two majors for a broader academic experience. Each major consists of 100, 200, and 300 level units that build theoretical knowledge and practical skills progressively throughout the program. The available majors include Australian Indigenous Knowledges, Justice Studies, Peace and Truth-Telling, Society and Digital Culture, Media Studies, Literature and Creative Writing, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Languages, Linguistics and Culture. These majors allow students to explore areas such as Indigenous sovereignty and wellbeing, human rights and social justice, the impact of digital technologies on society, storytelling and media production, cross-disciplinary problem solving, and multilingual communication. Students also have the option to undertake capstone units that offer professional or research-based experiences, including intercultural practice, independent study, or in-country placements. In addition, general elective units allow learners to select subjects from across the university, promoting academic diversity and flexibility. The course emphasizes transferable skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and ethical awareness—qualities essential for success in a rapidly changing employment landscape. To complete the program, students must ensure that no more than 100 credit points are taken from 100-level units and at least 60 credit points are completed at 300-level or above. The Bachelor of Arts at CDU encourages intellectual curiosity and provides the tools to engage meaningfully with social, cultural, and global issues, preparing graduates for a wide range of careers and further study opportunities.
