Course Curriculum

The Associate Degree of Network Engineering is a 160-credit-point, two-year program offered on campus or fully online via distance learning, requiring reliable broadband internet. It comprises 2 common units (20 cp), 11 core units (110 cp), and 3 electives (30 cp) at undergraduate level. All units are 10 credit points unless specified.Common units include IAS201 Cultural Capabilities (replacing CUC107 from 2024) and either CUC106 Design and Innovation: Communicating Technology or LAL100 Language, Literacy and Sustainability (replacing CUC100 from 2024). Core units deliver foundational and advanced networking skills: HIT137 Software Now, HIT164 Computing Fundamentals, HIT172 Operating Systems and Applications, HIT234 Database Concepts, HIT220 Algorithms and Complexity, ENG229 Digital Systems and Computer Architecture (replacing HIT235 from 2026), HIT372 Organisation Network Infrastructure, HIT274 Network Engineering Applications, PMO201 Project Management, HIT333 Cyber Security, and HIT374 Enterprise Network Engineering (replacing HIT174 from 2020).The curriculum emphasizes practical application through labs, simulations, and projects using industry-standard tools, covering network design, configuration, security, cloud integration, and troubleshooting. Course rules mandate at least 60 credit points at 200 level or higher. Transitional arrangements ensure continuity: students who completed HIT235 before 2026 are exempt from ENG229, and those with HIT174 before 2020 need not complete HIT374.Graduates are equipped for roles as network technicians, support specialists, or administrators in telecommunications, government, or enterprise environments. The program provides direct entry with full credit into the third year of CDU’s Bachelor of Information Technology or Bachelor of Software Engineering Honours, enabling specialization in cybersecurity, cloud computing, or advanced systems.
