The Associate Degree of Engineering is a 160-credit-point program delivered over two years full-time or part-time equivalent, available on campus or fully online via distance learning with high-speed internet recommended for optimal engagement. The first year establishes universal engineering foundations through 12 core units totaling 110 credit points, including CUC106 Design and Innovation: Communicating Technology, ENG151 Statics, ENG175 Internet of Things, HIT137 Software Now (replacing MAN105 from 2026), SMA101 Mathematics 1A, SMA102 Mathematics 1B, SMA104 Concepts of Mathematics, SPH141 Concepts of Physics, ENG204 Engineering Project, IAS201 Cultural Capabilities, IPM202 Professional Practice for Engineering Associates (0 cp), and PMO201 Project Management. These units develop essential mathematical, scientific, digital, and professional skills applicable across all engineering disciplines. In the second year, students specialize by completing 40 credit points (four units) from one stream: Civil and Structural (ENG212 Mechanics of Solids, ENG215 Surveying and Construction, ENG265 Concepts of Materials Engineering, ENG367 Hydraulics and Soil Mechanics—recoded from ENG267 in 2026); Electrical and Electronics (ENG221 Analogue Electronics, ENG223 Electrical Circuit Analysis, ENG224 Electrical Machines and Power Systems, ENG229 Digital Systems and Computer Architecture—recoded from HIT235 in 2026); or Mechanical (ENG212 Mechanics of Solids, ENG238 Manufacturing Technologies—title change 2026, ENG252 Dynamics, ENG265 Concepts of Materials Engineering). An additional 10-credit-point elective at 100–200 level, chosen from any undergraduate offering with faculty approval, allows personalization.Course rules mandate at least 60 credit points at 200 level or above. Transitional arrangements ensure continuity: students who completed MAN105 or ENG267/HIT235 before 2026 are exempt from HIT137, ENG367, or ENG229 respectively. The program equips graduates with industry-aligned skills for immediate employment as engineering associates or advanced standing into CDU’s Bachelor of Engineering degrees, fostering innovation and practical contribution in infrastructure, automation, or mechanical systems.
