The Bachelor of Medical Science at CQUniversity requires the completion of 23 or 24 units, totaling 144 credits, depending on the chosen major. The program is structured to provide a solid foundation in medical science through a combination of core units, a specialised major, and optional minors, allowing students to tailor the degree to their career goals. The core units cover essential areas of human biology, chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, and immunology. Students begin with Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 (BMSC11010, BMSC11011) or Medical Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 (BMSC11007, BMSC11008), providing a comprehensive understanding of the structure and function of the human body. Professional Practice in Medical Sciences (BMSC11003) introduces practical skills and ethical considerations for working in medical and research settings, while Atoms, Molecules and Matter (CHEM11043) and Microbiology (MBIO19012) provide foundational knowledge in chemistry and microorganisms. Additional units such as Foundations of Biochemistry (BMSC11005) and Foundations of Immunology (BMSC11012) further develop understanding of key biological processes. The Advanced Work Integrated Learning unit (BMSC13012) offers internship or placement opportunities, giving students practical experience in laboratory, clinical, or research environments.Alongside the core units, students complete a major consisting of 7 or 8 units, allowing them to specialise in areas such as clinical measurement, nutrition, pathology, or biotechnology. To broaden knowledge and skills, students also select either an eight-unit minor or two four-unit minors, providing additional flexibility and alignment with individual career aspirations. This structure ensures graduates are equipped with both theoretical understanding and practical experience, preparing them for careers in medical research, healthcare, biotechnology, or further professional study.
