In the first year of the program, students will be introduced to core clinical psychology competencies, laying the foundation for effective and ethical practice. Coursework will cover counselling psychotherapies, psychological assessment, and essential skills for safe and ethical professional conduct. Students will also study psychopathology and therapeutic approaches for a range of populations, including adults, families, children, and adolescents. This comprehensive theoretical training ensures students understand the complexities of mental health across the lifespan. In addition to academic study, students will begin their first supervised internship at the on-campus Psychology Clinic. This placement provides a structured environment to apply foundational knowledge in real-world clinical settings, with close guidance and support from experienced university staff. In the second year, students will build upon their initial training by developing advanced clinical skills through both coursework and practical experience. This includes a second internship as well as two externships, which take place in community settings under the supervision of qualified external professionals. These placements are designed to expose students to a broad range of clinical environments and client presentations, enhancing their adaptability, professional judgment, and therapeutic expertise. Throughout the year, students continue to refine their ability to deliver evidence-based psychological interventions and to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. By combining academic learning with diverse clinical placements, the program ensures graduates are thoroughly prepared for professional registration and capable of making meaningful contributions to the mental health field.
