The foundational semesters of the program are designed to introduce students to the core principles and scope of occupational therapy while building a strong theoretical and practical base. During this early stage, students study the foundations of occupational therapy alongside key subjects such as neuroscience, environments, work and play, multidisciplinary care, evidence-based practice, and strategies for enabling independence. The curriculum supports the development of a critical understanding of common health conditions and the ways physical and mental disabilities can affect individuals across the lifespan. Students learn to analyse functional challenges and design tailored solutions that address risk prevention, injury management, rehabilitation, and ongoing care. Through this core curriculum, learners begin to integrate theory with practical reasoning, preparing them to support individuals, families, and communities in achieving meaningful participation in daily life.In the subsequent semesters, the focus shifts toward advanced knowledge, professional development, and applied learning. Students explore professional practice within occupational therapy, including global perspectives that highlight how the profession operates across different cultural, social, and healthcare contexts. Topics in occupational health and wellbeing further expand students’ understanding of promoting health, preventing injury, and supporting sustainable work and lifestyle practices. During this phase, students also develop essential research skills, which prepare them to undertake individual projects in either clinical or business-focused research areas. These projects encourage critical inquiry, problem-solving, and the application of evidence to real-world challenges.A major component of the later semesters is the commencement of supervised clinical block placements. These placements provide hands-on experience in professional settings, allowing students to apply their core occupational therapy knowledge and skills in practice. Through supervised learning, students develop competencies in professionalism, communication, clinical documentation, assessment, intervention planning, and evaluation. This practical exposure strengthens clinical reasoning, builds confidence, and ensures graduates are well prepared for professional practice in diverse occupational therapy environments.
