Course Curriculum

Discover how each program is uniquely designed to inspire learning

The first year of the program focuses on building strong foundational knowledge and practical competencies essential for professional practice in nutrition and dietetics. Students are introduced to core concepts in nutrition science and food science, alongside the development of effective communication and counselling skills that are critical when working with individuals and communities. Emphasis is placed on understanding nutrition assessment methods, enabling students to evaluate dietary intake, nutritional status, and health needs across different population groups. The curriculum also explores public health nutrition priorities, helping students understand the broader social, cultural, and policy factors that influence nutrition and health outcomes. Throughout the year, students develop essential dietetic skills, including providing nutrition advice for the management of chronic diseases and acute clinical conditions. They also gain exposure to food service system management, where planning, quality control, and operational efficiency are key learning areas. In addition, students engage in planning and evaluating public health nutrition projects, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Intensive internship preparation subjects run alongside academic learning, focusing on self-management, professionalism, ethical conduct, and the application of evidence-based practice, ensuring students are well prepared for professional placements. In the second year of the master’s program, students build on their foundational skills through advanced practical experience and specialised learning. A key component of Year 2 is the completion of the remaining two professional placement internships, each lasting five weeks, which were commenced in the previous semester. These placements provide hands-on experience in professional settings, allowing students to integrate academic knowledge with practical application, develop confidence, and refine their professional competencies. Following the internships, students undertake a two-week intensive subject focused on sports and performance nutrition. This component is designed to develop specialised skills in providing nutritional advice to elite athletes as well as individuals in the wider community who participate in physical activity. Overall, the second year strengthens professional readiness, applied expertise, and career-focused skills in diverse nutrition contexts.
