The Master of International Relations is a 120-credit point postgraduate program designed to be completed over the course of one year, or three semesters, when undertaken on a full-time basis. The program is structured to offer students both theoretical foundations and practical research experience, allowing for specialization in key areas of global significance. Students can choose between two main study options, each tailored to different academic and professional goals. In Option 1, students undertake a comprehensive curriculum that includes the core subject Research Methods and Data Visualisation, which builds essential skills in data analysis and research design. This is followed by nine coursework subjects, offering broad exposure to contemporary issues such as transnational crime, diplomacy, politically motivated violence, and climate change. This option is ideal for students seeking a wide-ranging understanding of international relations. In addition, students select one general elective from any Faculty within the University, allowing them to explore an area of personal or professional interest. The program concludes with a minor research project, which provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a focused research question under academic supervision.Option 2 is designed for students who wish to concentrate more intensively on independent research. Alongside the Research Methods and Data Visualisation core subject, students complete seven coursework subjects, allowing for more targeted study within the field. The centerpiece of this option is a major research project, completed in two parts (Part A and Part B), which enables students to engage deeply with a specific area of international relations. This pathway is particularly well-suited for those considering further academic research or doctoral studies. Overall, the program equips graduates with critical thinking, analytical, and research skills relevant to a wide range of careers in international affairs, policy, diplomacy, and beyond.
