The Master of Criminal Justice and Criminology is a 92-week, professionally-oriented program delivered over four semesters and 20 weeks, designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical expertise in the field of criminal justice. In the first year, students build a deep understanding of crime analysis and global crime issues while completing a range of criminology coursework subjects. This year also allows for the inclusion of general electives selected from postgraduate subjects across the University, enabling students to broaden their skills and tailor their learning to specific interests. In the second year, students focus on completing a research project under the mentorship and supervision of highly experienced academics with extensive scholarly and industry backgrounds. This provides hands-on guidance and ensures that research skills are developed to a high standard. Additionally, the program incorporates a Professional Portfolio in the final semester, which bridges academic learning with practical, real-world experience. The Professional Portfolio is a structured, experiential component that includes either a work placement in Australia for 210 hours, accompanied by an employer’s report and a reflective journal of up to 5,000 words, or the completion of a collaborative research project totaling up to 15,000 words. This component is designed to enhance professional competencies, including project management, communication, and analytical skills, while giving students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Throughout the program, students are supported in developing both technical expertise in criminology and transferable professional skills that are highly valued in the workforce. By integrating advanced coursework, applied research, and professional experience, the Master of Criminal Justice and Criminology prepares graduates for careers in criminal justice, law enforcement, policy development, and research, equipping them with the knowledge, analytical abilities, and practical experience necessary to address complex contemporary crime and justice challenges at both national and international levels.
