In your first semester, you will begin your journey by exploring the foundations of human physiology and getting introduced to the key sub-disciplines of exercise and sports science. Alongside this, you will complete one of three core university subjects designed to develop essential skills in critical thinking and communication. This combination sets a solid base for both your scientific knowledge and academic skills. In the second semester, your studies will deepen with subjects in functional anatomy and exercise biochemistry, which are vital for understanding how the body responds to physical activity. Additionally, you will complete two more core university subjects that focus on collaboration and leadership, helping you build important interpersonal and teamwork abilities.By the third semester, your coursework will shift towards more specialised content, including biomechanics and motor learning. You will study the science of movement and skill acquisition, the psychology of sport, and the physiology of exercise, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how the body and mind work together during physical activity. In the fourth semester, you will learn research methods and applied health science pathways, which are essential for evidence-based practice. You will also develop practical skills in exercise prescription and delivery and complete your first work experience or practicum, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings. This semester also includes the final core university subject, which focuses on responsibility, integrity, and civic discourse. In the fifth semester, you will study advanced topics such as biomechanics, clinical pathophysiology, exercise prescription, and the psychology of behavioural change. These subjects will prepare you for your final semester by providing a deep understanding of both theory and practice. The sixth and final semester is dedicated to a comprehensive Capstone Project worth 20 credit points. This project requires you to integrate your knowledge across exercise science disciplines by assessing participant health and fitness, conducting an eight-week exercise intervention, and reflecting on the outcomes and effectiveness of the program. This practical experience is designed to showcase your skills and prepare you for a career as an exercise scientist.
