The degree structure is designed to provide students with both early specialisation and broad professional skills across two years of study, allowing for flexibility and personalisation. In the first year, students begin their communication major or minor immediately by completing three subjects within their chosen area, ensuring early engagement with discipline-specific knowledge and skills. Alongside this, students study foundational communication subjects such as Strategic Speaking and Writing, Communication in the Workplace, and Digital Media and Society, which develop strong written, verbal, and digital communication capabilities relevant to contemporary professional environments. These subjects introduce students to how communication operates across organisations, media platforms, and social contexts. In addition, all students complete Bond University’s three core subjects, which are designed to ensure the development of essential graduate attributes including critical thinking, collaboration, leadership, and integrity. Students also commence the Beyond Bond program, a compulsory, practical, and activity-based professional development initiative that runs alongside academic studies and focuses on building employability skills valued by employers. In the second year, students continue to progress through their communication major by completing a further six subjects, or through their minor by completing four subjects, allowing for deeper expertise and advanced understanding in their chosen field. The program also offers significant flexibility, enabling students to tailor their degree to suit their individual interests and career goals. Students may choose general elective subjects from any faculty across the university to broaden their knowledge base, complement their communication studies, or explore new areas of interest. Alternatively, students can use their electives to complete a second major or minor, further enhancing their academic profile and career readiness. This balanced and flexible structure ensures graduates develop strong communication expertise, professional skills, and adaptability for diverse career pathways.
