The Master of Counselling (MC) is a structured postgraduate program comprising 16 units and requiring the completion of 96 credit points. Each unit is valued at 6 credit points unless specified otherwise. The program is delivered in multiple modes of study, with some units offered exclusively online and others in Mixed Mode. Mixed Mode units are primarily studied online but include a compulsory short on-campus intensive period, usually lasting one week. Students enrolled in these units must be prepared to travel and attend the intensive sessions in person, ensuring that they receive both the flexibility of online learning and the benefits of direct, experiential engagement with instructors and peers. The course is designed to progress systematically over four semesters, offering students a comprehensive foundation in counselling theory, practice, and research. In the first semester, students are introduced to the Fundamentals of Counselling, Psychotherapy and Counselling Theories, Introduction to Psychology for Counselling, and Developmental Theories and Counselling. These units provide essential theoretical underpinnings and a strong base for further study. The second semester builds on this knowledge with Research in Counselling Practice A, Spiritual Perspectives on Emotional Disorders, Ethics, Diversity and Spiritual Integration, and Advanced Therapeutic Skills. These subjects integrate professional, spiritual, and ethical dimensions with the development of advanced practice competencies. In the third semester, the focus shifts toward specialised areas, including Mental Health and Psychopathology, Counselling Children and Adolescents, Systemic and Family Therapy Approaches, and the first stage of supervised Counselling Practice. The final semester consolidates learning through Counselling Couples, Introduction to Psychology of Religion, Counselling Practice II, and Research in Counselling Practice B. Together, these units provide opportunities for students to engage deeply with counselling across diverse contexts and populations while also building strong research skills. Overall, the MC equips graduates with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical grounding required for professional counselling practice in Australia.
