The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) requires the successful completion of 32 units, structured to provide a balanced mix of general, discipline-specific, and professional education studies. Students begin with 1 core unit, WHPE10101 Foundations of Wellbeing, which provides an essential grounding in personal wellbeing and its application within the teaching profession. In addition, 14 discipline units are completed, allowing students to build depth and expertise in their chosen teaching areas. These discipline units can be structured as a specialization, major, or minor combination, depending on the pathway selected. The program also includes 17 education units, which form the backbone of teacher preparation. Of these, 13 are core education units that cover key areas such as educational psychology, classroom management, curriculum planning, inclusive education, and professional practice. The remaining 4 units focus specifically on Curriculum and Pedagogical Studies, with two units dedicated to each of the student’s two chosen teaching areas. This ensures that graduates are well-prepared to design, deliver, and evaluate effective teaching programs in their fields of expertise.Altogether, the structure of the 32-unit program provides students with a holistic education. The combination of wellbeing, discipline-specific knowledge, and professional teacher training equips graduates with the skills to manage the demands of modern classrooms while maintaining a strong focus on student learning and development. This program not only prepares future teachers with subject expertise but also fosters the professional values and pedagogical strategies needed to become adaptable, reflective, and effective secondary educators.
