Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Nursing is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional experience required to succeed as registered nurses. The degree consists of 24 units totaling 144 credit points, studied over six semesters full time or the part-time equivalent. A significant feature of the program is the requirement of at least 800 hours of professional experience, allowing students to integrate theory with practice in real healthcare settings. The curriculum covers a wide range of general and specialty nursing areas including acute care in medical and surgical contexts, high dependency units such as emergency and intensive care, maternal and child health, mental health, community care, and aged care. Supporting studies in physical, biological, and behavioral sciences are interwoven throughout to provide a holistic and well-rounded perspective on nursing practice.In the first year, students build a strong foundation with introductory units such as Nursing Practice, Nursing Foundations, and Applied Nursing Science, alongside specialized topics like Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Mental Health Nursing Foundations. The second year emphasizes evidence-based nursing, caring for older adults, mental health practice, and community and family health nursing, while continuing to develop professional nursing practice skills.
