Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Arts (Counselling) is a structured program that requires the completion of 24 units, amounting to 144 credit points. Each unit is valued at six credit points unless specified otherwise. Students undertaking the course on a full-time basis will complete four units per semester across six semesters, though a part-time equivalent pathway is also available for those needing greater flexibility.The degree is designed to provide students with the choice of three distinct study pathways to suit different career interests and goals. The first option is a dual specialisation in Counselling and Psychology, giving students a strong foundation in both disciplines and preparing them for diverse roles in mental health and wellbeing. The second option allows students to complete a Counselling specialisation with either a Chaplaincy or Psychology major, combining practical counselling skills with broader areas of study. The third pathway involves a Counselling specialisation alongside a minor in an elective study area, giving students the flexibility to explore additional interests and tailor the program to their aspirations.Psychology units, an integral part of two of the pathways, are delivered online through cross-institutional study at the University of New England (UNE), ensuring students receive high-quality instruction in psychology alongside their counselling training.The structure of the program under the dual specialisation pathway includes three core Arts units, ten Counselling specialisation units, ten Psychology specialisation units, and one elective unit. This balance allows students to develop essential counselling knowledge and practice, while also gaining a solid understanding of psychological principles.Overall, the course provides a comprehensive framework that equips graduates with professional skills, academic grounding, and the flexibility to pursue careers across counselling, psychology-related fields, chaplaincy, and other areas where mental health and wellbeing support are needed.
