The Master of Professional Psychology at ACAP University College consists of nine core level 500 units and is designed to be completed in one year full-time or up to three years part-time. This program represents the fifth year in the six-year pathway required for general registration as a psychologist in Australia. The course focuses on the integration of theory, research, and professional practice to prepare students for real-world psychological work. Students begin with foundational professional competencies through units such as Professional Psychology: Core Skills and Ethics, and Applied Research 1. They then progress into more advanced topics including assessing and intervening with psychological problems, and professional practice across different life stages. The course includes three professional placement units—Practice 1, Practice 2, and Practice 3—ensuring that students gain substantial supervised practical experience. Applied Research 2 continues the development of evidence-based thinking and research-informed practice. The unit Practice Across the Lifespan further broadens students' understanding of psychological interventions and developmental considerations from childhood through to late adulthood. This structured and comprehensive course equips students with the skills needed to provide ethical, competent, and effective psychological services. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to undertake a one-year internship or the Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychological Practice to fulfill the sixth year of training for general registration as a psychologist in Australia.
