Course Curriculum

The Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Coursework Stream) is a full-time, two-year program that combines advanced academic study with extensive professional clinical experience. In the first year, students undertake specified units that cover clinical assessment and exercise prescription for musculoskeletal conditions of the lower limb, trunk, and upper limb, cardiopulmonary conditions, neurological conditions, chronic and complex conditions, as well as lifestyle and exercise counselling. Occupational assessment, rehabilitation, and responsible clinical practice are also studied, ensuring students develop the knowledge and professional skills necessary for safe and effective patient care.In the second year, the focus shifts to professional experience through a sequence of three clinical placements. Clinical Experience 1, 2, and 3 build on the theoretical knowledge and practical skills gained in the first year, allowing students to apply clinical assessment, exercise prescription, and patient management in real-world healthcare settings. Elective units offered online provide flexibility to explore additional areas of interest.This structure ensures graduates are comprehensively prepared for professional practice in clinical exercise physiology. By integrating rigorous academic training with hands-on clinical experience, the program equips students with the competencies required to manage patients with acute, sub-acute, and chronic conditions, as well as non-communicable diseases and multimorbidities. Successful completion of the program satisfies the requirements for accreditation by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA), enabling graduates to pursue careers in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, community health, and private practice. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, professional responsibility, and the application of exercise science to improve health outcomes.
