The Bachelor of Arts and Design program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in both creative practice and theoretical study. Part A consists of specified units that combine studio-based art and design subjects with core curriculum courses. Students engage in practical disciplines such as drawing, painting, ceramics, multimedia, and graphic design, gaining hands-on experience while developing technical skills and personal artistic style. Alongside these creative units, students complete core curriculum subjects that foster critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and a broader understanding of human culture and society. These units, including being human, ethics and the good life, practical reasoning for life and career, revolutionary values, Catholic social thought, and imagining ourselves through art and cinema, encourage students to reflect on societal issues and their role as thoughtful, informed practitioners. Part B offers elective units, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific interests and deepen knowledge in areas of their choice, supporting interdisciplinary engagement and individual exploration. The program is designed to integrate practical skills with theoretical knowledge, preparing graduates to pursue careers in creative industries, visual arts, design, or related fields. The combination of studio practice, design thinking, and humanities-based inquiry equips students with transferable skills such as problem-solving, communication, critical analysis, and creative innovation. By completing this program, students develop the artistic, intellectual, and reflective capabilities needed to thrive in both professional and academic contexts, with opportunities to further specialize or continue studies in honours programs or postgraduate research. The course emphasizes both personal expression and societal engagement, ensuring that graduates are capable of contributing meaningfully to the arts, design, and wider cultural sectors.
