The Diploma in Liberal Arts is structured as a one-year full-time program that introduces students to a broad range of disciplines across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, providing a strong foundation for further tertiary study or career pathways. In the first semester, students focus on developing essential academic and communication skills, beginning with English Language Communication Skills for onshore international students, or an arts elective for domestic students, alongside three additional electives that allow learners to explore topics of personal or academic interest. Domestic students are also required to complete a specified history or political science unit, such as Global History: Six Degrees of Separation, ensuring exposure to core historical and global perspectives. This combination of foundational units and electives equips students with critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and effective communication skills, which are essential for success in higher education and beyond. In the second semester, the program continues with Core Curriculum Unit 1, which introduces students to broader academic and ethical frameworks, and a further history or political science unit, such as Australian Indigenous Peoples Past and Present or Introduction to International Relations, to deepen understanding of societal and cultural contexts. The remaining units are electives, allowing students to tailor their learning according to their interests and career aspirations. Across both semesters, the curriculum balances academic skill development with flexible study options, fostering intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and a reflective approach to learning. By completing the Diploma in Liberal Arts, students gain an AQF Level 5 qualification that not only serves as a recognised standalone award but also provides a pathway into undergraduate study in the Bachelor of Arts or related programs. This structure ensures that graduates leave with a well-rounded academic foundation, transferable skills, and the confidence to navigate future educational or professional opportunities in a diverse range of fields.
