Course Curriculum

The program is structured across five parts, guiding students through foundational knowledge, core curriculum themes, specialised social work theory and practice, essential skills development, and supervised practice education. Part A requires 50 credit points from foundation units that introduce key areas such as Indigenous health, psychology, lifespan development, sociology, and global social change. Part B involves 20 credit points from a broad selection of core curriculum units exploring human identity, ethics, reasoning, spirituality, social values, science, justice, and peace-making. Part C forms the largest component, with 150 credit points dedicated to core social work units that cover the purpose and context of social work, human rights, ethics, work with children and families, mental health, Indigenous practice, legal frameworks, social policy, interdisciplinary collaboration, anti-racist practice, community skills, and specialised fields such as domestic violence, ageing, disability, and child protection. Part D adds 40 credit points of skills-focused units that build professional communication, individual and group practice skills, and advanced social work techniques. Finally, Part E consists of 60 credit points of practice education, either through two major field education placements or, where recognition of prior learning applies, an alternative pathway combining informal learning, integration units, and the second field placement. This structured combination ensures graduates gain theoretical depth, practical competence, and professional readiness for social work practice across diverse contexts.
