The Bachelor of Psychological Science is a three-year full-time program designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour, cognition, and mental processes while developing practical research and professional skills. In the first year, students begin by studying foundational psychology units such as Foundations of Psychology and Psychological Practice: Theory and Techniques, alongside Applications of Psychology and Research Design and Data Analysis 1, which introduce them to core theoretical concepts and basic research methodologies. Students also select electives and minor units in health sciences or the arts to broaden their academic perspectives and develop transferable skills. In the second year, the program builds on this foundation with advanced study in areas including Life Span Development, Personality and Individual Differences, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, and Research Design and Data Analysis 2, helping students gain deeper insights into developmental, social, and cognitive aspects of psychology. Students continue to progress through minor units and electives, with the requirement that at least one elective be a psychology-specific unit, ensuring engagement with the discipline. In the third year, the focus shifts to applied and advanced studies, with units such as Psychological Services Experience providing practical community engagement, and other units including Psychological Assessment, Brain and Behaviour, Cognitive Psychology, and Learning and Behaviour, all of which enhance students’ understanding of complex mental processes and their real-world applications. Additionally, students complete Research Design and Data Analysis 3, further strengthening their ability to conduct empirical research and critically evaluate psychological data. The course also incorporates two core curriculum units to support ethical reasoning, communication, and broader academic development. By completing this program, graduates gain a combination of theoretical knowledge, research proficiency, practical experience, and professional competencies, equipping them for careers in psychology-related fields, allied professions, or further postgraduate study that may lead to professional registration as a psychologist.
