The Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) at ACU is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of human behaviour, cognition, and emotion, while preparing them for further postgraduate study or professional practice in psychology. Over the course of four years, students develop foundational knowledge through first-year units such as Foundations of Psychology and Psychological Practice: Theory and Techniques, alongside opportunities to explore a minor in areas like Health Sciences or Arts. These first-year studies establish the theoretical, practical, and research skills necessary to progress in the discipline. Students also gain exposure to research methodology and data analysis through units such as Research Design and Data Analysis 1, equipping them with essential skills for interpreting psychological data and conducting evidence-based studies. In the second year, students build on their knowledge with specialised units including Life Span Development, Personality and Individual Differences, Social Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology. They also continue developing research capabilities in Research Design and Data Analysis 2, which supports the design and interpretation of experiments and investigations. The integration of minor units allows students to tailor their studies to individual interests, broadening their perspective on human behaviour in different contexts.Years three and four focus on advanced psychological practice and research. Students complete community engagement experiences such as Psychological Services Experience, which provide real-world opportunities to apply psychological principles. Core units like Psychological Assessment, Brain and Behaviour, Cognitive Psychology, and Learning and Behaviour deepen understanding of complex mental processes and human behaviour. The honours component, comprising Research Methods, Honours Thesis A and B, and advanced topics in psychology, develops independent research skills, critical thinking, and expertise in specialised areas. Students also explore professional practice with units on psychological assessment and interventions, preparing them for future roles in clinical, organisational, or community psychology. This comprehensive program ensures graduates meet APAC requirements, positioning them for postgraduate study, registration as a psychologist, or a wide range of careers where psychological expertise is valued. With rigorous academic training, practical experience, and professional skill development, graduates are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to individuals, communities, and society.
