The Bachelor of Nutrition Science at ACU provides a comprehensive and multidisciplinary education designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to make a meaningful impact in the food, nutrition, and health sectors. This degree builds a strong foundation in human biology, chemistry, and nutritional science while exploring the broader context of health promotion and public health. Students begin their studies with core units such as Human Biology, Introduction to Nutrition, and Foundations of Health Promotion, alongside essential courses in chemistry and culinary nutrition science. These foundational units are designed to give students a solid understanding of the physiological, biochemical, and societal aspects of nutrition. As students progress, the curriculum deepens their expertise in areas such as metabolic biochemistry, nutritional physiology, lifespan nutrition, and pathophysiology, integrating theory with practical application. Public health research methods and epidemiology units provide the analytical and research skills necessary to evaluate health data and inform evidence-based nutritional interventions. In the later years of the degree, students focus on applied aspects of nutrition through units such as Diet, Health and Disease, Food Science in Practice, Food, Society and the Environment, Food Product Design and Development, and Community and Public Health Nutrition. These units emphasize the connection between nutrition, society, and the environment, preparing students for roles that require practical problem-solving, innovation, and community engagement. The program also includes elective units and core curriculum components, allowing students to tailor their learning and develop broader professional and academic skills. Graduates of this program are well-prepared for a wide range of careers, including food and nutrition consultancy, health promotion, public health, research, and positions in emerging areas such as sustainable food systems, culinary nutrition, and nutrition policy. With a combination of scientific knowledge, applied practice, and community-focused learning, students are equipped to contribute to improving health outcomes for individuals and populations locally and globally.
