Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Educational Studies is structured to give students a strong foundation in academic literacy, core education knowledge and general education studies while also offering pathways towards initial teacher education programs. In the first semester of Year 1, students complete an academic literacy unit alongside English and mathematics foundation units, with specific requirements for students in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales who have not met state prerequisites. A third foundational education unit completes the semester. Semester 2 continues with four additional foundation units, and students intending to progress into teaching degrees are encouraged to sit the LANTITE literacy and numeracy tests. In Year 2, students move into general education units supported by a Core Curriculum unit in the first semester, followed by four more general education units in the second. The final year builds on this broad educational grounding with a second Core Curriculum unit and a sequence of advanced general education units across both semesters. This structure ensures students develop the academic skills and knowledge needed for education-related careers or for transition into the second year of selected Bachelor of Education degrees, subject to meeting progression and non-academic requirements.
