Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) with a Literacies specialisation offers a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for teaching from birth to 12 years across early childhood and primary school settings. Across four years of study, students engage with foundational education studies, literacy development, mathematics, science, the arts, technologies and inclusive education. The course also integrates specialised early childhood units that explore infant and toddler development, play-based pedagogies, social and emotional competence, curriculum planning and leadership in early childhood contexts. Professional experience is embedded throughout the degree, beginning with early placements that introduce students to classroom environments and progressing to more extensive teaching practice across diverse age groups, including birth-to-35-month settings. Students also develop strong literacy expertise through dedicated units in early reading, English curriculum, literacy pedagogies and literacy for diverse learners. Additional opportunities such as global education experiences, community engagement and the LANTITE literacy and numeracy requirements support each student’s readiness for professional practice. By the final year, students are equipped with skills in assessment, behaviour support, curriculum planning and professional communication, ensuring they graduate confident, capable and classroom-ready.
