Course Curriculum

The Master of Information Technology (MIT) is a postgraduate program designed to provide students—particularly those from non-IT backgrounds—with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to enter and thrive in the information technology field. To be awarded the degree, students must successfully complete 12 units, totaling 96 credit points. This includes seven core units and five electives, with the option to pursue a general track or a specialisation in Cyber Security, Enterprise Networks, or Artificial Intelligence.The seven core units lay the foundation for advanced IT knowledge. These include studies in information systems, data management, software and systems design, computer networks and security, research methods, project constraint management, and a capstone Applied Project. The capstone unit enables students to integrate and apply their learning through a real-world or simulated IT project, demonstrating their readiness for professional roles.Students pursuing the general MIT program select four advanced ICT electives, identified by a caret (^), plus one additional elective from any field. Those opting for a specialisation must complete three specific ICT units tied to their chosen field, one additional advanced ICT elective, and one general elective. Specialisation in Cyber Security involves subjects in system security, cyber defence, and security management. Enterprise Networks focuses on cloud solutions, network design, and emerging networking technologies. The Artificial Intelligence stream includes foundational AI, machine learning, and generative AI models.Electives also include a range of project management and business-focused units, allowing students to broaden their skillset in leadership, planning, finance, law, and communications. This flexible and industry-aligned course structure ensures that MIT graduates are well-equipped to enter various high-demand IT roles, including cyber security analysts, enterprise network architects, and AI specialists, in both technical and strategic capacities across diverse industries.
