The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is a well-rounded and industry-relevant degree designed to prepare students for a wide range of careers in the IT field. To qualify for the award, students must successfully complete 24 units, totaling 144 credit points. This includes 11 core units, six electives from Business Information Systems (BIS) or Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and seven Business (BUS) electives. The core units provide a strong foundation in key areas such as programming, data management, information systems, systems analysis and design, enterprise architecture, and IT infrastructure. The course also includes subjects in project management and professional communication. In the final stages of the degree, students complete a two-part capstone industry project that enables them to apply their knowledge in practical, real-world scenarios.Students have the flexibility to choose BIS and ICT electives that suit their interests and career goals. Those who do not wish to specialise must complete at least four advanced-level BIS or ICT electives, which may include subjects such as data analytics, eCommerce applications, cloud computing, and information systems security. Students who choose to specialise in Computer Networks and Security are required to complete specific electives including IS Security and Risk Management, Cloud Computing, Routing and Switching, Enterprise Networking, Digital Forensics, and Cyber Defence. These units are aligned with the skills required for industry certifications like the CISCO CCNA.In addition to the technical focus, students must also complete seven business electives. These include a wide selection of units in areas such as management, finance, accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, and strategic planning. This blend of technical and business knowledge ensures graduates are well-prepared for various roles in IT, including network administration, cybersecurity, business analysis, and project management in both public and private sectors.
