Course Curriculum

In Trimester 1 of the Diploma of 3D Animation, students build a solid foundation in the full 3D workflow required to create unique 3D character animations. Key areas of learning include props and background development, navigation of industry-standard 3D software, and core skills such as modelling, texturing, lighting, skinning, camera animation, and rendering. Alongside technical training, students explore the evolution of film and digital media, studying themes like film history, genre, style, and foundational animation techniques such as stop motion. The curriculum also focuses on visual storytelling, where students develop skills in scriptwriting, storyboarding, animatics, and camera composition to prepare engaging narratives for animation and film. Professional skills like project management, presentation, reflection, research, creativity, and responding to feedback are integrated throughout to prepare students for industry expectations.In Trimester 2, students refine their expertise by selecting an elective path in either Game Scripting or Concept Design. The Game Scripting path introduces programming fundamentals specific to game development, including scripting logic, debugging, and iteration within game engines—vital for aspiring game designers. Alternatively, the Concept Design path emphasizes artistic skills needed to create compelling characters, environments, costumes, and props, focusing on creative thinking, storytelling, and professional communication. Core subjects in this trimester include 3D Animation Mechanics, where students apply animation principles to create lifelike movements and stylized performances using advanced software, and 3D Rigging, which teaches the technical skills to build animation-ready skeletal structures for models. Throughout Trimester 2, students continue to develop essential professional skills such as time management, problem-solving, communication, and presenting work for feedback, ensuring a well-rounded preparation for careers in animation and related creative industries.
